Diving Development Manager

Due to the appointment of the current manager to the post of ASA National Development Officer for Diving, the Authority seeks to appoint a new Manager and coach for its diving scheme. The post requires a positive, well motivated individual who can take on the role of manager / diving coach to a team who’s members currently include a number of divers on the ASA World Class Start and Potential Programmes and Senior International representatives.

Applicants should have the following:

  At least 3 years experience of :-
   (a) Local county and regional diving competitions.
   (b) Involvement in coaching at club/scheme level.
  A.S.A. Diving Teachers Certificates. BTF Trampoline Coach.
  Evidence of recent training and commitment to continuing professional development.
  Knowledge of and understanding of the A.S.A.’s Development plans for Diving.
  An understanding of the use of safe diving practices / equipment to ensure a safe environment.
  Data input experience
  Ability to deal with staff and customers in a professional manner

Applicants must be eligible to work in the U.K , be prepared to work flexible, unsocial hours, e.g., evenings and weekends and able to travel between sites.

City of Bradford Diving Training Scheme is an integral part of the Swimming Development in Bradford. The diving scheme regularly uses two pools and a sport centre for dry land training, in addition to these sites there are an additional 9 City owned and run pools and a number of school pools within the locality, which have deep water suitable for the teaching of diving.

Shipley Pool
  Shipley Pool is the main training venue for the diving scheme. The pool is equipped with 2 x 1m springboard, 1 x 3m springboard, 5m platform, 1m dry board with large new landing mats, bubble machine, deck level full length run up platform, additional crash mats and large matted floor area for warm ups and gymnastic exercises, plus additional training equipment.
   
  Diving currently takes place at this venue six days per week

Nab Wood Sport Centre
  NWSC is the dry land training venue for the scheme situated just 1 mile from Shipley Pool to the north of the City. The centre is equipped with the following:
   
  4 x trampoline
  2 x dry boards
  2 x overhead spotting rigs (+ a number of somersault and twisting belts)
  additional gymnasium with gymnastic equipment
  This venue is also used for developmental trampoline lessons.

Eccleshill Pool
  This is the second pool regularly used for diving. The diving area is situated at the deep end of a 33m pool. The pool has a large poolside area, 2 x 3m platforms which are excellent for skill development of platform dives and synchronised training for platform diving. For junior divers the pool has 2 x drop down 1/2m platforms.
   
  Eccleshill Pool is situated between Shipley Pool and Leeds
   
  Eccleshill Pool is earmarked for major refurbishment in the coming couple of years.

Bingley Pool
  This is the administration offices for the Swimming Development Scheme.
  Bingley pool is situated on 2.5 miles from Shipley Pool to the North of the City and just over one mile from NWSC.


OUTLINE JOB DESCRIPTION

POST TITLE Diving Development Manager
(Inc Water Polo/Synchronised Swimming)

The following information is furnished to assist staff joining the Metropolitan Council to understand and appreciate the work content of their post and the role they are to play in the organisation. However the following points should be noted:

PRIME OBJECTIVES OF THE POST:

1. To be responsible to the Principal Swimming Development Manager for the management and development of diving/water polo, synchronised swimming within Sports and Leisure Services.
 
2. To teach/cover Diving (as an aquatic activity) at Basic, Intermediate and Advanced level on the L.T.S./Aquatic Programme.
 
3. Organising and monitoring the schemes to cover all ages, abilities and interest groups.
 
4. Supervising all coaches and volunteers on the scheme. Monitoring coaching standards and allocating work and cover as necessary.
 
5. To act as Advisor to the City of Bradford Esprit School of Diving (Club) and attend all relevant competition, championships etc., as necessary.
 
6. Ensuring accurate information about the scheme is fully available to the public and to market the scheme to non users.
 
7. To work to include the coaching schemes in the ISO 9002 Accreditation and Investors In People.


SUPERVISORY/MANAGERIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsible for management and supervision of approximately 20 coaches / volunteers together with their associated syllabus and standards of work.

Responsible for the induction training of all new coaches.

To recommend any staff for further training as appropriate.

To assist the Principal Swimming Development Manager in the recruitment of teachers/coaches/volunteers.


SUPERVISION AND GUIDANCE:

Responsible to the Principal Swimming Development Manager from whom guidance is received on non-routine and complex matters.

Will organise own workload in the main around the Swimming Development Scheme within the post holder’s area of control.


RANGE OF DECISION MAKING:

Day to day operational decisions referring only non routine and complex matters to the Principal Swimming Development Manager.


RESPONSIBILITY FOR ASSETS, MATERIALS ETC.:

To ensure any equipment purchased is safe and fit for purpose.

Joint responsibility with the pool manager for the frequent examination and maintenance of all diving boards and platforms in their facilities.


RANGE OF DUTIES:

1. To manage and supervise the work of approximately 20 coaches/volunteers.
 
2. To ensure all staff comply with regulations regarding dress, equipment. Health and Safety at all times.
 
3. To assist the Principal Swimming Development Manager in the management of Human Resources e.g., recruitment, appraisals etc.
 
4. To assist the Principal Swimming Development Manager with the programme and syllabus both internal and through the National Governing Bodies.
 
5. To ensure all administrative and financial matters relating to the Swimming Development Scheme are adhered to, and income targets are met and maximised.
 
6. To collate financial reports.
 
7. To assist the Principal Swimming Development Manager to give presentations to other Local Authorities / Bodies regarding the Swimming Development Scheme.
 
8. To organise, monitor and develop the scheme from juniors to masters.
 
9. To ensure all sessions are adequately and competently staffed and all coaches are conversant with the syllabus and kept informed of any changes etc.
 
10. To ensure each pupil is continuously assessed and that a progressive place in available.
 
11. To liase with facility managers/head teachers regarding the scheme programme arranging new courses where time/space permits.
 
12. To liase with facility managers to market the scheme.
 
13. To deal with complaints from customers in accordance with ISO 9002 Procedures.
 
14. To monitor the standards of all sessions and ensure the appropriate corrective / preventive action is taken when necessary to improve the quality.
 
15. To work as part of the team creatively and imaginatively to improve the scheme by reviewing the syllabus and award scheme and ensuring compliance with current best practice.
 
16. To be alert to changing trends and funding opportunities.
 
17. To coach/cover diving sessions as and when necessary.
 
18. Act as coach advisor/liaison to the City of Bradford Esprit School of Diving.
 
19. To organise or facilitate coaching courses / clinics etc.
 
20. To work with the National Governing Body to implement a World Class Start Programme in Bradford.
